Plus Size Clothing Fit
Patterns of plus size clothing have traditionally been graded up from a smaller construction pattern, however many retailers are using statistical data collected from their own measuring projects, and from specialized Body Scan Data collection projects to modernize the fit and construction of their clothing. Over a three-year period U.S. companies Lane Bryant and Catherines teamed up to source data to modernize the companies' garment construction. A huge fourteen thousand women were measured in what was the most extensive female sizing study in the U.S. in over 60 years.
Plus-size clothing refers to women's clothing that are sized 16 and up, or 14W and up in the US. The W in the sizes mean Women, since plus-sizes are also refered to as woman's sizes. Plus-size clothing is usually sold in a separate section of the department store, or a separate store entirely, as they are still considered a specialty line of clothing.
